Even though we’ve visited Paris before, the city never ceases to amaze us with its unrelenting beauty. Even the incessant rain and bone-chilling winds couldn’t dampen our moods. R and I planned this impromptu trip to celebrate our second anniversary – what better place than Paris we thought! We spent the last weekend in absolute harmony with the city of love serving as the perfect backdrop. We sauntered through the cobbled streets, devoured buttery croissants every morning and marvelled at the city’s innumerable architectural masterpieces. No matter what you do, the city inevitably draws you into its charming aura. Let us take you on a photo journey of the most Instagram worthy spots in Paris
1 Musee D’Orsay:
Located in the bustling sixth arrondissement, Musee D’Orsay houses one of the most impressive art collections in the world. You can spend hours in here marvelling at everything from Realism to Impressionist art. But the hidden gem is the majestic black and gold clock located on the fifth floor. This place tends to get quite busy, so our suggestion is to head there first and work your way from there.
This is an obvious choice but hey, no list is complete without the mention of this iconic landmark. The beautiful arches, the winding stairs and seminal works of art all make for a great picture. If you want to get away from the jostling crowds, then the Tuileries Gardens is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet moment.
A few feet from the Abbesses metro station is the famous love wall – a work of art conceived by Frédéric Baron and Claire Kito. The wall is inscribed with the phrase ‘I love you’ in more than 300 languages. Another picture-worthy spot is the Sacré-Coeur – you can sit on the steps and take in the breathtaking panorama of the city.
4 Eiffel Tower:
You can’t go to Paree and not pay a visit to this gargantuan treasure. We snuck away to the park next to the tower to enjoy the view all to ourselves. This charming tree-lined park is the most idyllic spot to take in the expansiveness of the Eiffel Tower.
5 Montparnasse Tower:
You get to see the Eiffel Tower from another perspective. The dreamy view of the city from the tallest building is breathtaking to say the least. Watching the sun go down with the sky turning hues of amber and gold was one of the top highlights of our trip.
6 Petit Palais:
While we missed seeing the Grand Palais, the Petit Palais more than made up for it. What stole our hearts was the serene courtyard tucked away near the entrance of the Palais. You can enjoy a hot cuppa amidst an oasis of greenery. The marble countertops, wrought iron chairs and mosaic flooring is all whimsical and equally beautiful.
The pastel décor, divine macarons and the charming café make for a picture-perfect setting. There’s nothing more heavenly than sinking your teeth into these pastel-hued delights. They are light, airy and utterly delicious. R froze for a few seconds after he devoured the rose macarons because they were just too good to be true.
